Dire need for self-retrospection by Muslims
Religious leaders plant harmony tree
Inter faith tolerance need of the hour

New Delhi: August: 6 - First solid, serious and substantive inter faith unity attempt by Indian Muslims was seen at a unique conference held at Delhi's Scope Convention Centre under the aegis of Inter Faith harmony Foundation of India (IFHFI) that saw luminaries like K R Narayanan, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Swami Dayanand Saraswati, Dr Karan Singh, Sardar Tarlochan Singh besides the IFHFI founder president Khwaja Iftikhar Ahmed.

In his prophetic and sagacious message ex-president, K R Narayanan stated that need of the hour was to establish tolerance, rationality, logical thinking and fraternal feeling. He categorically mentioned that the compassionate grounds in all religions must be brought forth for the masses to realize.

According to the founder president Khwaja Iftikhar Ahmed, the present day situation demands the use of collective wisdom and ecumenical understanding of the interfaith issues to resolve the religiously conflagrating issues and also an initiative towards self-retrospection by the Muslim community and to examine as to what has gone wrong at our end. "The roots of most of the problems that the world has been confronted with today, are not religious but are exclusively politically motivated," stated Khwaja. Constant denial of justice and prolonged delay in resolving outstanding issues, are giving space to extremism, obscurantism and their connectivity with Islam as a faith and Muslims as a community

Dr Karan Singh in his inimitable style stated that amity is better than enmity while conciliation is better than confrontation as dialogue always scores over deadlock.

The harmony tree was planted by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar followed by the keynote address by Swami Dayanand Saraswati who emphasized upon the need of firmly cementing the bonds of inter religious harmony for tranquility and concord on the earth. He also assured the Foundation of his full cooperation in all its future peace initiatives.

Rabbi Ezra Moses, an Indian Jewish leader said that the IFHFI should perennially work for preserving human dignity of an individual and also human rights.

While releasing the book Me in Ek Fard-e-Wahid penned by Khwaja Iftikhar, Sardar Tarlochan Singh, chairman, National Commission for Minorities, stated that a movement must begin for universal brotherhood.

On the occasion, tolerance and harmony awards were given to Dalai Lama, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Dr Hsin Tao, Ezra Moses, Syed Sultan Arif, Dr M P Narayanan, Maulana Waheeduddin Khan, Dr A K Merchant, Mobed Dr Rooyintan Peshotan Peer and Sardar Tarlochan Singh.

Inter faith media consultant of the IFHFI, Mr. Hafeezurrehman told that the Foundation plans to open an inter faith harmony university that would aim at a strong social, educational and moral world order.
